2017 Architektur von | Architecture by | Architecture de Dietrich | Untertrifaller

New monograph on the complete work and the most important projects since 2008 in detail

The architecture of Dietrich | Untertrifaller is always developed with sensitivity and self-confidence from the respective context, with spatial sophistication, formal discipline and a finely nuanced materiality. The monograph presents in detail the most important works since 2008 and at the same time gives an overview of the complete works of the architects. Today Dietrich | Untertrifaller can rely on a wide range of references: regional museums and important cultural institutions, corporate headquarters and university sports centres, single-family houses and large-volume residential buildings, interiors and revitalisations of historical buildings. Long known as a pioneer of modern timber construction beyond the borders of Austria, the office has realised numerous projects and won competitions in France and Germany in recent years. This successful development provided an opportunity to look back on the work of the past 20 years in order to demonstrate developments and continuity.

The book was designed by lenz+ büro für visuelle gestaltung. The Vienna office is known for its well thought-out, creative, detailed graphic concept and has already received numerous awards, including the gold medal of the German Stiftung Buchkunst as “Best designed book from all over the world”, one of the most renowned and traditional international prizes for book design. The texts are by the architectural journalist Franziska Leeb, the photos by Bruno Klomfar – both long-time companions of Dietrich | Untertrifaller, who not only know the buildings, but also understand how the office ticks. Köbi Gantenbein, author and editor-in-chief of Hochparterre, the Swiss magazine for architecture and design, describes Dietrich | Untertrifaller in his introductory essay as “innovators who want to make something different from what is there” and certifies them a “point of view of questioning curiosity and pragmatic cheerfulness”.
