Concert Centre Klein Venedig, Konstanz (DE)

The construction of a concert and congress centre (at various locations) has been discussed in Constance for 100 years. In 2010, the city’s politicians committed to the construction of such a house with a hotel, parking garage and outdoor facilities at the “Little Venice” site in Constance. The size of the project is roughly equivalent to the Festival Theatre in Bregenz with both construction stages.
The city council decision in Constance was preceded by a three-stage competition in which five project teams participated. The office of Dietrich | Untertrifaller was victorious in the final round against Wilhelm Holzbauer, Vienna. The overall concept convinced the jury with its clear urban concept, compact, energy-optimised construction, high-quality furnishings, technical refinements and the concert hall with a large window overlooking the lake. The hall with 1,200 permanently installed concert chairs can be transformed into a congress room in just 1.5 hours during the day. To do this, a mobile hall floor is moved in, dividing the room horizontally.
The hotel directly adjacent to the Concert and Congress Hall is financed and operated by a private investor. The multi-storey car park has space for 450 vehicles. A modern energy management system makes it possible to shift heat and cold between the concert and congress hall (in passive house quality) and the hotel (in low-energy construction) according to demand.
