The « Uferpark » as a central building block of Friedrichhafen’s historically grown urban structure no longer meets today’s diverse requirements for an inner-city Bürgerpark. Our solution: free space and expansion. We remove the numerous installations and relics of past epochs and expand the park in all directions and open it to the city.
As an essential new element, the boulevard promenade between Friedrichstrasse and Bürgerwiese forms a smooth transition between street and park. « Free floating » garden islands allow a relaxed stroll and create flexible recreation areas with playgrounds and leisure activities. Zeppelin fountains, gastronomy pavilion or the new location of the city nursery are successfully integrated. To the west, the boulevard promenade includes the Zeppelin House, leaves an appropriate forecourt and connects it via the stairs with the Bürgerwiese, riverside promenade and marina.
The promenade widens between the harbour basins into a square-like terrace following the gentle arch of the bay: the Seefreiheit. Recreation areas under trees, beach volleyball and other installations provide variety. A lakeside restaurant under an expansive roof offers sufficient capacity at any time of the year thanks to flexibly interconnectable areas. A step construction along the entire length of the Seefreiheit forms a tribune to the lake with interspersed reclining elements.
The station square is strengthened in its function as an urban arrival point and public transport hub, but also as an address in the city and urban square. The new recreation area with the Zeppelin monument in the middle forms the centre. Green spaces are integrated into the uniform pavement of stone slabs, creating a connection to the park.
