ORF Media Center, Vienna (AT)

The stringent, large-volume structure redefines the courtyard-like urban space. With its wide cantilevers it welcomes its visitors creating an inviting gesture for those arriving. Demolishing the northern wing of Building 10 creates a generous and sensible forecourt and entrance situation for the entire complex.
The heart of the new building is the multi-media newsroom, flooded with light and rising like an arena, with a warm atmosphere characterized by wood and high transparency on all sides. This communicative, highly flexible, lively and exciting sequence of rooms can be grasped at one glance. At the same time, it fosters team spirit among the stations and departments centrally located around this atrium and connects them throughout all office floors with short and direct connections.
The so-called Landesstudio Wien may be part of the ensemble with joint access, but it could also have its own access under the northern cantilever. The visitor center will be positioned in the center of the newly created glazed, direct, and generous connection to the existing main entrance, forming a bridge between the new and the old.
