Klein Venedig Concert Hall, Konstanz (DE)

The construction of a concert and congress hall (in various possible locations) has been subject for discussion in Constance for around 100 years. In 2010, the city policy committed itself to the construction of such a house with hotel, parking garage and outdoor facilities at the “Klein Venedig” site in Constance. The size of the project can almost be compared to the Festspielhaus in Bregenz comprising both construction stages.
The final decision of the city council in Constance was preceded by a three-stage competition in which five project teams took part. Dietrich | Untertrifaller was successful in the final round against Wilhelm Holzbauer, Vienna. The overall concept convinced the jury with its clear urban concept, compact and energy-optimised buildings, high-quality furnishings, technical refinements and the concert hall with a large window overlooking the lake. The hall hosting 1,200 permanently installed chairs can be transformed into a congress room. A mobile second hall floor can be closed to divide the room horizontally.
A private investor finances and operates the hotel right next to the concert and congress hall. The multi-storey car park offers space for 450 vehicles. There is a demand-oriented heat and cold shift between the concert and congress hall (in passive house quality) and the hotel (low-energy construction) working by means of energy management.
