IZM Illwerke Zentrum Montafon, Vandans

At an intriguing angle to the existing buildings, the new Montafon headquarters of the Vorarlberger Illwerke is located on the shore of Lake Rodund. With a powerful gesture it moves far out into the water. This creates a reasonable distance to the steeply rising mountain flank, which shades the area on the south side and leaves room for an artificial park landscape.
The spacious ground floor, oriented to all sides and partly with two-storey upstands, serves as a basis for the sturdy office block with clear east-west orientation and beautiful, wide views. This creates a moving silhouette, whose expressiveness remains of buildings from the pioneering era of power plant construction. Due to its exposed location on and in the lake, the building radiates far and wide – as a symbol of the significance of hydropower and thus of the Illwerke for the Montafon.
Through the radial formation of the tree rows – lake and building in sight – one crosses the park and reaches a slightly sloping ramp into a covered entrance area underneath the office wing. The cafeteria facing the park with its garden and lake – which can also be used as a separate event area in the evening – is the communicative prelude and an attractive meeting place for all employees and visitors. The foyer, which is open to the west and serves as a distribution point, follows. From here – well visible from the reception – the upper floors are centrally accessed. Behind it are the differently sized meeting and training rooms, also with great views.
