Lecture: 20.7.2022, Forum Auf Holz Bauen 2022
“Bim as a success factor in modern timber construction – A consideration of the entire life cycle” is the title of the lecture by Dominik Philipp as part of the timber construction education offensive of the Holzbauforum Baden-Württemberg.
If we consider the entire life cycle of a building project, we must already include in the planning the most diverse aspects of all later construction phases, so that both the buildings constructed today and areas can be renovated or adapted.
By linking computer-based design, simulation and production processes and ongoing synchronisation, timber construction already plays a leading role here and closes the gaps between planning and realisation. It goes without saying that it ensures efficient and optimised use of materials. It also already fulfils the necessary framework conditions for digital reuse and upcycling processes. The digital twin serves as a database for the reuse of materials, a resource that will become increasingly important in the future.
We can even go one step further: If we do not focus on individual buildings, but network entire districts or cities and set them up as digital twins, we can make the leap to long-lasting optimisation with interactive resource use and energy collectives.
