Spinnereistrasse, Hard (AT)

The three-corner property with conservation-worthy rows of trees to the west and north is located between an industrial and a mixed housing zone. Showing two long wings along these borders, a high-rising “southern type” provides a shield toward the north, and, together with the building component in the west, defines a field containing three southward-oriented rows of terrace houses of graded lengths. Different sizes of flats and types of ground plans correspond to the three constructional principles, forming something like a grammar of thrifty residential building.
The moderate number of identical types of flats modifies their cost-reducing alignment and piling. The distinguished offers in terms of the entire complex respond to various demands. The two-story rows of terrace houses are the formal link to the three-story east-west-type and the south-west oriented, five-story gallery block.
