Kindergarten Rosenlaecherstrasse, Lustenau (AT)

The long-drawn block of group rooms with a short, diagonally placed upper end is located within a square housing estate loosely occupied by single-family houses. On the south-side, a frame of broad panels reunites the construction, rhythmized by three bigger units, while creating a loggia-like transition into the garden. The three group rooms are many-membered in terms of space. Adjacent to each, cloakrooms with exits onto the garden can be accessed from the corridor at the back. The end adjoining to the east is two-storied, with a children′s kitchen and a workshop arranged on the raised ground floor above a half-sunken gymnasium.
The long-drawn complex offers the children abundant types of rooms in terms of experimental space, in addition to various heights and levels of rooms. Here, the corridor, over 40 m in length with niches in front of the cloakrooms, is the most extraordinary spatial element. Oriented to the north, the long-side glasswork serves to avoid feelings of deficient space, while its lengthiness offers itself to the children as a particular attraction.
