House R, Schnepfau (AT)

The narrow two-story dwelling placed at a right angle to the wooded slope rising behind it, is a prefabricated timber construction.
A long covered recess marks the entrance. The ground floor houses a garage, secondary rooms and two main rooms. The living and bedroom zones with large sliding doors on the upper floor are oriented towards a southwest facing porch, a typical feature of traditional Bregenzerwald architecture. They are separated by a staircase. The spacious alcove on the west side of the building reconnects both wings.
A continuous fine band of windows beneath the minimal roof projection faces the old parsonage and emphasizes the longitudinal orientation of the building. A continuous row of cabinets underneath these windows underlines this effect on the inside.
The building’s character is further emphasized by the fine larch façade; the straight cut outs on both long sides and the even integration of the openings into the façade. A single opening on the front of the building offers a view of the Kanisfluh mountain.
