House F, Lauterach (AT)

A small house from the 1950s, surrounded by a large garden was converted into a multi-generation home. The client wanted to create new living space for his family of five. In order to take care of his elderly mother and for economic reasons an annex and a new story were added to the existing home. The beautiful garden had to be preserved while expanding the views into the Rhine Valley.
The mother kept the ground floor, where a bedroom was added. The first floor accommodates the bedrooms and a rehearsal space for the young family of music lovers. The roof was removed to give way for an additional story in lightweight construction with prefabricated timber components. The result is a generous open living space that opens to a terrace and stunning views of the Rhine Valley and the surrounding alpine landscape.
