DUO Dreilindenhang, St. Gallen (CH)

The residential complex, consisting of four loosely arranged, alternately recessed buildings, respects the natural topography of the slope and eases the rigidity and stiffness of the existing building structure. Each of the five-story houses contains 10 apartments, two on each floor. In the two northern buildings, facing lengthwise, the apartments traverse through the entire building and are open on both sides along their entire length with inset balconies.
The two southern buildings whose width faces the road contain living areas built around corners and generous terraces and loggias. The windows on the front sides are grouped together by brown metal panels forming a ribbon window, providing a pleasant contrast to the lightly-plastered facade. The four residential buildings are connected via an underground garage and by cellar units, heating and laundry rooms. Above ground, a wide access road also serves as a meeting place for the residents.
