Dorfstrasse, Feldkirch (AT)

The long, slightly sloping property offers ideal conditions for the construction of high-quality apartments. The two similar but slightly offset buildings react to the topographical situation and the garden-city character of the surroundings. The rough, grey-brown plaster is of urban robustness. Each building has 10 rental apartments with two to four rooms, all facing southwest and with high quality furnishings. The entrances are set back in the northeast, flanked by oak paneled facades. Illuminated concrete bases, which also serve as storage areas and benches, line the covered forecourt and create an inviting entrance. On the northeastern boundary of the property, the enclosures of the underground car park and garbage room as well as two bicycle garages enclose the property and give the outside space a protective backbone.
While the north-facing façade has only isolated openings, all apartments are glazed to the south-west as high as the room. With its plastered parapets, it acts as a privacy screen along the entire length of the building and at the same time as a sun and weather protection for the apartments underneath. The balconies resemble extended drawers and, with their asymmetrically offset arrangement, enliven the façade.
