Böcklinstraße, St. Gallen (CH)

In 2009, our Swiss office Dietrich | Untertrifaller | Stäheli was commissioned by the Evangelical Reformed parish of St. Gallen with a study for the hillside property in Böcklinstraße north of the old town. On this basis, in 2011 the city planning office drew up a design plan for the area in a prime residential location.

In autumn 2014, we started construction work on the apartment building with 11 rental units and an underground car park with 15 spaces. The sloping site enabled us to build two garden apartments on the south side of the basement in addition to the cellar rooms, while the main entrance and three further apartments are located on the ground floor. On the upper floor are four residential units and the recessed attic floor houses two spacious roof terrace apartments with a panoramic view of the old town.

Together with the landscape planners Pauli Stricker, we have created a park landscape that matches its surroundings and in which the building is harmoniously embedded. All access and play zones as well as recreation areas are attractively designed and animate the residents to communicative interactions. Spacious covered balconies offer private retreats and extend the living space to the outside.
