DGNB Platinum Sustainability Certificate for Freiburg’s Metzgergrün Quarter
The German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) has awarded our Metzgergrün Quarter in the Stühlinger district with the Platinum development certificate. This certificate is the first for a construction project in Freiburg and only the second of its kind in Baden-Württemberg. The certificate was presented by Dr. Christine Lemaitre, Executive Director of the German Sustainable Building Council – DGNB.
The certification comprises criteria from five thematic fields of sustainable building (ecological, economic, sociocultural, technical and process-related). Overall, Metzgergrün Quarter achieved 81.8 percent, the high level of fulfillment required for platinum certification. The certificate in the highest award level at the DGNB is thus proof that the planning of the new quarter took into account a wide range of sustainability requirements in a holistic manner.
The Metzgergrün combines sustainable construction with affordable housing. “We are proud that the joint quality standard for an innovative and socially balanced urban quarter has been awarded the highest DGNB label. Many thanks for the excellent cooperation to our client, the Freiburger Stadtbau GmbH and the entire planning team,” says Patrick Stremler, Managing Director of Dietrich | Untertrifaller.
We won the competition in 2017 together with the landscape planners Ramboll Studio Dreiseitl and are now building a modern neighborhood with approximately 500 new apartments and generous green spaces.
