Future Art Lab, Vienna (AT)
Due to its moderate height, the volume of the Future Art Lab perfectly blends into the horizontal ensemble of Vienna Uni¬versity of Music and forms the metaphorical keystone of the campus.
The minimized ground floor allows for high transparency with beautiful views to the south, despite the wide cantilevered ins¬titute areas in the two upper floors. The cantilever also ensures that the roofed exterior spaces can be used easily on all sides, while the floor to ceiling glazing provides a view from above and below into the surrounding air space. As a result, the event halls and their public performance can be perceived from outside.
The foyer offers natural light and functions as a generous ex¬change and meeting point. The floor above the stacked, high decoupled halls hosts the building services, supplying all areas on short distances. The individual institutes are organized story-wise to ensure smooth and threshold-free operation for the new education center. Electro-acoustic underground, keyboard instruments on the first and film academy on the second floor are located around the center of the stacked halls, the heart of the new building.
