Wettbewerb Klein Venedig, Konstanz (D)

Five project teams (selected from 50 entries) participated in a three-stage competition in Constance to design the following four components: CONCERT/CONVENTION HALL, HOTEL, PARKING GARAGE and OUTDOOR SPACES.

The concept submitted by Dietrich | Untertrifaller convinced the jury with its clear urban planning approach, the compact design of the building, its energy-efficient technology and exclusive fittings, as well as the sophisticated technical details and the versatile concert hall with large picture windows facing the lake.
In addition to the architectural style and the energy concept, in particular the functional solutions stand out: the hall that seats 1,200 concert visitors can be converted into a convention space in only 1.5 hours. For this purpose, a mobile hall floor is drawn in that divides the space horizontally. Through energy management a use-based heat exchange takes places between the concert/ convention hall (built in line with passive house guidelines) and the hotel with 123 rooms (low-energy building) that is operated by a private investor. The parking garage accommodates 450 vehicles.
A concert/ convention hall (in various locations) has been discussed in Constance for a decade; and finally the project was approved on January 28, 2010 with 30:9 votes.
Ultimately, the residents made the final decision on March 21, 2010.

Invited competition – new lofts on Johnstraße Vienna

In December 2009 the jury recommended the implementation of our CONOSCOPIC LOFTS.
In the 15th district of Vienna approximately 1,200 m² of housing space are to be created on a narrow plot of a perimeter development from the Gründerzeit era. The idea of real lofts is ideally implemented in the shape of gradually arranged living spaces that are devoid of supports and maximized in size, without compromising private space. The units can be used for various combinations of living and working, or exclusively for dwelling purposes.

Competition: full refurbishment of Dornbirn elementary school

The Wallenmahd elementary school with eight classrooms, three kindergarten rooms and a gymnasium was built in the second half of the 1950s and extended in the early 1990s. The building stands out on account of some special features, such as the generous concept; however, many areas no longer meet modern structural requirements. The full refurbishment comprises both the restoration of the building structure as well as the adaptation of the spaces to future needs in response to educational developments and changes of school laws.
The jury rated our design positevely which envisions the demolition of the annexes from the 1990s and the creation of a state-of-the-art façade and recommended its implementation. The space allocation plan that is realized by maintaining the existing structure was evaluated as well organized. The pavilion with day care facilities and a library allows for instructing students outside of a traditional classroom setting. Furthermore, the library can be also be used separately from school activities.

Baupreis Allgäu (Allgäu Building Prize) 2009: Burgstraße Kempten

In addition to the five winners selected from more than 100 entries five projects received acknowledgements, including the restoration of the historic old town around Burgstraße. Client: Sozialbau (social housing corporation). Completion: 2009

Conclusion of the jury: Derelict land in the inner city is revitalized by adding an intelligent, high-quality urban component. The urban planning concept created façades inspired by historic archetypes such as gabled roof and perforated façade that were interpreted in an intriguing juxtaposition.

Guest professor at the Vienna University of Technology

Munch Untertrifaller was appointed as a guest professor to the Vienna University of Technology in the winter semester 2009/10. He focused on a modern interpretation and further development of the ORF (Austrian Broadcasting Corporation) Center on Küniglberg for the duration of his appointment. Dietrich | Untertrifaller had already demonstrated their sensitive architectural approach when they added the new Hall F to Stadthalle Wien, a famous structure by architect Roland Rainer (1910-2004).
