Blumenegg Areal – housing, Bregenz
The residential construction occupies a disused industrial site, close to the city center and the lake but separated by the railway. It is part of a wider urban revitalization project that should provide a better integration of this part of the city.
Two preserved old buildings frame the main entrance to the car-free residence area. The new buildings both for rental housing and home ownership, stand as self-contained edifices in a large landscaped area. The apartments enjoy
a clear view. By their proportions and their clear facades in plaster, the six buildings echo the historic buildings visible on the edge of the site. Three of them surround a central plaza and are oriented to neighborhood facilities, like housing for the elderly and a apartment suitable for assisted living.
The buildings meet the Passivhaus standards: they are equipped with controlled mechanical ventilation with dual thermodynamic flow, solar panels on the roof and geothermal heating.
