Villa Pohl, Bregenz
On the city limits of Bregenz Villa Pohl perched above the foot of the Pfänder, presenting itself in a rather dilapidated shape and no longer adequate for modern living.
The old building was not replaced by stacked apartments with similar layouts, but instead four maisonette flats were built in the style of villas.
Aside from clearly differentiated living and sleeping quarters, they pay homage to the view of the lake. A projecting “curtain” made of perforated, canted copper panels makes the house with its large openings look like a villa and ensures unobstructed views of the bay of Bregenz.
The interior glass facade defines the private areas and conveys a certain degree of lightness due to its transparency from the inside to the outside. At the same time, with its window openings, this metal sheet that extends along the entire west side forms private areas for the building occupants and protects from prying looks.
