House R, Schnepfau
The narrow two-story dwelling is placed at a right angle to the wooded slope rising behind it. The building is a prefabricated timber construction, which reflects a uniform order.
The layout reveals a recessed and covered entrance. The outside enters the simple residential unit. The ground floor houses a garage, secondary rooms and two rooms.
The living and bedroom zones with large sliding doors on the upper floor are oriented towards the southwest porch (a typical feature of traditional Bregenzerwald architecture). They are separated by a staircase. The spacious alcove on the west side of the building reconnects both wings.
A low window band stretches beneath the minimal roof projection towards the old parsonage, emphasizing the longitudinal orientation of the building by means of the row of cabinets extending underneath. Further striking characteristics of the structure include the indentations on both long sides and the evenness of its fine larch cladding. The windows are conceived as integrated elements, and on the face, there is a single opening with a view of the Kanisfluh mountain.
